First, I would like to apologize to all for my lack of productivity in the Discipleship Training program. The Youth Department and “the world” have kept me very busy over the last few months. I have learned that no matter how hard I try, I still cannot be in two places at the same time. As soon as I figure out how to clone myself, we’ll really get things rolling.
Currently, there are a couple of classes in the planning stages:
Jacki and I (mostly Jacki) are doing research to develop an “Evangelism for Dummies” class. No, that’s not really the proposed name, but I think you get the idea. There are a lot of resources available, but we’re trying to get down to the nitty gritty: how to share Christ without fear, how do I approach someone, what do I say… that sort of stuff.
Jennifer has also proposed a class entitled “Make a Difference in the Next Generation”. It would cover teaching skills to use with children and youth classes. It would help Sunday School, Discipleship Training, Preschool and Children's ministries and Mission Organizations. It would be for parents as well as people who currently work with children or those you might like to work with them. We would be equipping them with information like sharing Christ with the different age groups, outreach to children and parents, understanding preschoolers, understanding children, understanding teenagers, using teaching aides, web resources, or maybe a core values survey to kick off the class.
I love the both of these ideas, but to make any DT class function, we need students. To get some of out younger adults involved, we need something for their children to do…like a children’s class and an available nursery. So, once again, I’m asking for your help.
Please pray for our Discipleship Training program and the DT teachers, present and future.
"...Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." - John 8:31-32
